We got to go backstage at the Polynesian Cultural Center and see how the show works behind the scenes. The boys were fascinated by the fire dancers skill. We had pinapple ice cream at the Dole plantation, plenty of pool and beach time and lots of yummy food. We discovered Eggs and Things in Honolulu this trip. Yummy 5 piled high pancakes with coconut or papaya syrup. We also ate at Nicco's from Diners Drive-ins and Dives... so good. fish right from the docks that morning. The boys loved playing with the crabs on the docks.

I think it is pretty accurate... When my boys turned 2 yrs. old I measured their height and multiplied it by 2.
This Kaboose calculator came up with the same number.

Although you can try to defy predictions by:

sleep in a totally darkened room (get deep sleep)
wake up at the same time every morning

For Christmas I gave the boys a pass to Soldier Hollow Sled Hill.
It was an Olympic venue that has been made into a 1200 ft. sled hill.
They had a blast the day after Christmas. Brody and I went on a smaller hill for prego ladies and little ones.

Christmas Eve
We told the baby Jesus story out of the Bible and set up my stained glass nativity set. The kids opened their cousin gift from Cooper. Cindy the capes are so cute. Kallin is using his as an apron which turned out pretty useful for him. Thank you from the boys.
They were so excited to go to bed.
They woke up so early, like 5:30 a.m.!, that we told them they needed to wait and do something until it was really time to wake up and open presents.

Kitchen remodel
We rented out our house but before we did we completed the kitchen.
It turned out so beautiful. We finished the backsplash and painted the red walls tan after we moved out.

Festival of Trees

We did a fun Gingerbread House this year...Every christmas we make simple, store bought gingerbread houses at home. We got a little adventureous and made a Huge house for the Festival of Trees. Our first one and it actually turned out! The houses and trees are auctioned off and the proceeds go to the Primary Childrens Hospital. Our house is dedicated to our friends little boy Luke who loved Elmo. Our house is "Santa's Toy Shop Builds Elmo". There are more pics below...

The boys start selling their Noble pine christmas wreaths this week.
They are excited, we opened a bank account for the Harrison Boys College Fund.
It is going to be their winter tradition, thanks to mom, whether they love it or not.

Our friends from Boise lost their 23 month old little boy yesterday in an accidental backover. Our thoughts and tears and prayers are for their behalf. His aunt wrote that he fulfilled his calling here on Earth and was a happy part of all of their lives. May his family find comfort knowing that he is with a loving Heavenly Father. May we remember that we are here to do all we can to be with our families again in Heaven.

PROTECTING CHILDREN DURING TIMES OF DIFFICULTY
"During our recent Stake Leadership meeting, President John Frischknecht asked the auxiliary presidencies to make a special effort to help teach stake members the importance of preparing children for the future. President Frischknecht recalled sitting in front of the television with his grandchildren on September 11, 2001, watching events unfold as the Twin Towers fell and the attack on the Pentagon was broadcast. Not realizing that the children were being impacted by the graphic images and frightening commentary, the adults in the Frischknecht family watched or listened to reports almost nonstop, and even made the disaster the topic of conversation at the dinner table, Later that night, when it was time for the grandchildren to go to bed, they were so frightened, they each asked permission to sleep with their parents.
President Frischknecht shared this story as an example of the importance of being wise as we share information about difficulties in the world. He counseled us to be cautious to speak positively around the dinner table or in the presence of children. He reminded us of the importance of focusing on our blessing, rather than complaining about our problems. Our children deserve the assurance that there is secure footing beneath them. Stories of gloom and doom do not bless them, and because children are essentially powerless to do anything about "adult problems," making them aware of many of those problems simply creates unnecessary stress and worry for impressionable children. Parents need to be sensitive to their children's emotions and portray an attitude of optimism rather than gloom and doom. "We need to teach our children that the future will be as bright as their faith, said President Frischknecht. With that counsel in mind, we encourage parents to use wisdom and sensitivity as world events are discussed in our homes. We had Thanksgiving in Idaho with Justin's family. Fun but cold. I miss the nice warm weather. I was telling Justin the other day that our family spent our first Christmas in Florida at the beach. We didn't swim but it was a fun memory for Christmas. The weather was very nice there. I am going to have to learn how to ski so I can love the snow. Last year I took my boys sledding several times that was lots of fun.

I love to ask the boys what they are Thankful for

Porter said he was thankful for Christmas, Halloween, Toys, Ty guy (his cousin), His brothers, Mom, Dad, book orders, presents, Easter, Brody, Cheetos, crackers, food, Blakey, and Brody again.

Yesterday I discovered facebook. Yes I admit it. I am just not up with the times...

Anyway, I found my High School and church people, and links to lots of people that I grew up around, and loved. I feel so detached from my roots. The rush of emotions hit me like a train and I have to admit that I am emotional today. I loved my youth and some of the people I loved most are out of my life and I guess that is part of growing. We learn to love and let go.

I found myself wishing and praying to go back to 17.

Today our family went to eat at the Harley-Davidson in Lindon, Utah. It opened this year in an old Geneva Steel bldg. To our delight there was a strongman competition going on. I wish I had brought our camera. The boys were in awe. They got super excited when one of the competitors smashed a construction cone with an 800 lb. tire.

Our neighbor who is a professional strongman was in charge of the competition today. We drive by his house sometimes and see him pulling a huge tire with a chain down the street or sometimes huge metal contraptions. Kinda cool.

Porter is 4! He has been waiting for his birthday since the beginning of the year. He had an Indiana Jones cake with the big boulder that actually rolls after Indiana. When we picked up the cake he was so excited, the ladies at the bakery got a big kick out of his reaction. He got an Indiana Jones whip that makes the sounds in the movie. G+G Harrison and G+G Liljenquist both gave him $20 to take to the toy store. Everything he chose was Indiana Jones. In fact he loves Indiana Jones so much that if I really need him to do something for me, I call him Indiana and he will usually do whatever he is asked... like get in his seat belt. It is kind of nice to be in a pretend world and still do what needs done in the present:)

The boys started school today. Bitter-Sweet for mom. It means the end of summer fun, swimming, and freedom from a tight schedule. Sweet because we are ready for a more scheduled life.

They have so many friends that they are excited to see again. Kallin's teacher is Miss Allen(different than Miss Allen who taught him last year) He has 8 neighborhood friends in his class of 27, and he knows many others from the last few years of school. He is seated right next to one of his best friends Zach Hamilton because the teacher has them in alphabetical order. (I'm sure that seating arrangement will be changing)

Blake has Miss Robinson for first grade. He was ready a week ago for school to start. He has 18 classmates and knows almost everyone. He didn't even wait a second after I took his picture to say ''Bye Mom." So I went and peeked in his class at him. All those first graders are so cute.

Justin gave them their back to school blessings last night starting with Porter and ending with me. (I am in school you know) I am learning everything I never learned before starting with kindergarten by doing homework with the boys:) I am also finishing my degree at BYU through the Independent Study program. We live so close to the campus that I've taken several classes there.

Fun to have the boys at school........ can't wait till they get home.

After I got them off, I told Justin that no matter what happens for the rest of the day, it's a great day.....Later I found Brody with the chocolate syrup. I have been doing my back to school shopping for my boys this week. Most of it at the stores and some online. I shopped online for sizes that gymboree was out of. My boys actually weren't bad to take out this year. I think they enjoyed it a little more than in the past. They picked out colors that they like. And Blake got a new blue backpack that he was very excited to get because it came with a water bottle.

If you are wondering why the girls clothing pictures....I love to look at all of the cute girls clothes that are available . I've got a ton of pictures of girls clothes saved in a file that I have found online. Kind of weird since I have four boys! After shopping this week, I've decided that shopping for my boys is so easy. The selection is simple. I got them a bunch of polo shirts a pair of khaki shorts a belt and a pair of jeans, a pack of underwear and a pack of thick socks for each. Thick so the holes in the heals don't come so quickly. I talked to my friend at the mall and she had her daughter with her and she was telling me how much harder it is to shop for her girls. I am glad I have boys, especially during the back to school shopping season.

I have been watching the KSL classified adds for kitchen cabinets, a canoe, and a piano..... We got these cabinets today out of a showroom that is moving locations.

I am so excited they are 8 ft. tall and 9 ft. wide. They are distressed cream, knotty alder. We got them for $500. What a find. I called Justin right as he landed at the Salt Lake airport. He went right over. Good thing he was speedy because 2 other buyers came in after him. What a good guy.

Midway for 4th of July

backtracking to the 4th of July. We camped in Midway at Wasatch mtn. state park. The best campground ever. Showers and a beautiful view. The boys fished in the park pond. The picture of them with the ranger is their oath to kiss a fish on the nose if the catch one. We stayed at the Zermatt resort the next night and rode the merry-go-round and watched fireworks from the hilltop. It was so fun. We had ice cream at the train depot in Heber. I love that valley. Brody didn't like the fireworks that night, but when we did our own he had a better time.

We went on the funnest trip. Justin had two meetings scheduled and so we decided to tag along and make it a family summer vacation. We went to Idaho Falls to see Justin's parents and we played at Rigby lake with the cousins. I saw my cousin Holly there. That was fun. lots of wind.

Then we drove to beautiful Star Valley and stayed in a cabin-looking condo in Afton Wyoming. It was so pretty. That is the town Rulon Gardner the Olympic wrestler is from. Everyone there has a lot of Rulon pride. We had Ice Cream cones in a barn restaurant.

We camped at Colter Bay on Jackson lake.(I love to camp now that I can sleep with my bear spray) no joke. We were just below Yellowstone Park and at the base of the Grand Tetons. We roasted marshmallows and hot dogs. It was a true blast.

The next morning we ferried over to the Tetons and hiked up to a waterfall. five minutes into our hike Porter announced that he had pooped his pants:) We had our share of that kind of stuff the hole trip. All in all though we overlooked the fighting and crying in the backseat and a misplaced child that scared me to death and peed sleeping bags... and it was great. Nature is magnificent! You can't be in this area and not thank our Heavenly Father for his wonders he has placed here for us to enjoy.

I call my boys my babies and Kallin and Blake sometimes protest because they are actually 8 and 6 years old. My babies because they are so precious to me. I could be called a mushy mom by my kids. Not a day goes by that they don't hear mom say "I love you", "you are my champion" or I sing a few silly songs that are just for them. They all have a nickname just from me. When they wake up I love to be happy to see them. I know that they like it, because they are very loving, huggy little types that reciprocate those words to me and others. Life is so short and bad things can and do happen, not that I concetrate on the bad. I appreciate the good more because of the bad, I love my boys.

My cousin Chantel lost her little two year old baby boy this past weekend. I am heartsick for her. I am happy that she got to have the little guy even for a short time. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers with us.

Porter finished his first year of preschool last week.
Kallin has till thursday to get on with summer fun.

We have had a fun memorial weekend so far. We went hiking in the canyon behind us today. Porter picked up every stick we passed. It was great. Brody slept in the baby backpack. Kallin had fun cutting sticks off of trees with Justin's pocket knife. Blake loved to throw rocks in the water. All three boys took their backpacks with a snack and drink. 5 minutes into the hike they all decided it was time to pull out the food. Such a highlight for a kid. So funny to us.

Yesterday we cleaned up our house and did yard work. For our memorial weekend kickoff Justin the boys and I went to Gardener Village. The boys rode ponies and got to go to the candy store. I love that place. We had dinner in the barn restaurant lots of fun.

Kallin's Baptism Day

Kallin was Baptized Saturday May 3rd at the Mapleton Stake Center by his daddy. We had a fun day. Kallin was nervous and excited all at once. He had two friends baptized on the same day with him, Gage and Naomi. All the Grandparents came and stayed overnight. We also had Great Grandma Charlotte and Katie and Hayden. A full house all to support Kallin on his special day. I (Keri) gave the egg trick talk. It was great, even if the egg didn't go into the jar of water on it's own! I asked Kallin if he liked it and he said "ya mom that was funny." Kallin had his Grandpa's be the baptism witnesses to make sure he was dunked all the way under. He looked so cute with all of the men standing around him as he was confirmed. He was so happy.

We had lunch outside with family and friends afterwords. Thank you all for coming. Thanks Uncle Kevin for the talk.

After church last week these deer were in the field behind our house. I love the animals we have out here. The boys are trying to get close, but as you see, it didn't work very well. They chased them away. The boys will have to practice quiet skills. I could practice that at home durring the day. Could work out pretty nice for me. The house might be a little quieter.

Kallin played basketball at Hobble Creek Elementary. Gage Garlitz was on his team. They had fun. The best part was the medal they got at the last game. Boys love snacks too. The pictures above are him taking a ball from the other team. That was an exciting. He was always glad when the team scored a point. Kallin did really good gaurding his guy on the other team.

His birthday was March 29th. Our tradition is to bring out his cake and sit it in front of him and watch him eat it. The boys thoughtbit was hilarous, he even got some on Blake. He loved the cake and made 'yum' sounds as he ate.

Boys loved going to the game. It was last month but I just downloaded the pictures. BYU got so many three point shots at the end of the game. They loved the Cougar. He shot shirts to the crowd with a cannon and walked down the bleachers on his hands.

Easter Weekend

We traveled south for the weekend. The warm weather was perfect. First to St. George for Thursday night and Friday morning meetings that Justin was in charge of. The kids and I stayed at the Abby Inn. We swam and watched a Disney movie. It was spring break and lots of people were in town for baseball tournaments.

Porter gave the girls at the pool some excitement. Our room window was just above the pool deck. I was on the phone with Cindy, bathing the boys, and had just gotten Brody to nap. Porter is out of the tub and into the window yelling "Hi everybody." Lots of people were laughing. Including Cindy on the other end of the phone. I was hollering "get out of the window, he's naked, shut the window." Cindy thought that a naked guy was outside of our window and I was trying to get the boys to hurry and shut the window. Good laugh!

We drove on to Phoenix for Saturday and Sunday. We have spent six of our Easters in Idaho with Justin's family and the last few in Utah so it was fun for the kids to have some fun outdoors in the sunshine with the cousins.

We went to Lisa's house for a Saturday pizza party and egg hunt in the park by her house. We also celebrated five March birthdays, Justin, Christian, Carly, Emma, and Brody.

Sunday we went to church with Grandma and Grandpa, Hayden, Katie, and Spencer and his girlfriend Robin. First time to meet Robin and Blake is already giving great big hugs. We spent the evening in Marana, Az. with Great Grandma Liljenquist. We celebrated her having electricity. She had it installed last week. Grandma has lived for 2 years without it. She used a generator for everything. That is not an easy thing, hence the celebration. The kids and their dads and Grandpa tromped around the desert looking at cactus and rabbits and hoping not to see rattlesnakes. We sat around a fire and sang our family song. Dad told some funny childhood stories. About a baby fox he found as a boy. He hid it in his closet and it jumped out at Grandma when she opened the door.

Shawn and Cari brought out their newborn baby girl, Riley. She was so little and cute. She was born last Monday.

Now we are back and Spring is coming to Utah...finally.

How did you meet your spouse?
Justin’s family is from Idaho. Our dads worked as deputies together a long time ago in Idaho Falls. His family came vacationing to Florida. They stayed at our house. Funny thing….. My cousin Nelly was watching Justin teach me a dance move while at her house, she said
“You are going to get married.” Well at the time it was funny. As far from my mind as that comment was at the time…she was right.

Where did you go on your first date?We were trying to figure this out. We don’t remember, but probably a dance. I was attending Rick’s College while we were dating and we had so much fun going to lots of dances.

How long have you been together?2 years of dating …and 10 years of marriage…2+10=12 WOW! Since I’m only 29 that is almost half of my life.

Who eats more?Justin, unless its dessert.

Who said I love you first?Justin Who is taller?Justin
(hopefully our kids will be taller than both of us) On my side of the family Justin and I are in the running for the shortest couple.

Who sings better?Justin has a beautiful soft voice.

Who is smarter?I’m hoping we think the other is the smartest. Haha Justin is a smart guy. We both love to read and talk about current topics. I hope we continue to stay excited about the world around us and what it offers. Actually, I think any of our children are smarter than both of us combined. Do you ever feel that way?

Who does the laundry?Justin and I both wash. Sometimes I go the extra mile and wash the same load twice! I am the winner when it comes to folding and hanging things up.

Who does the dishes?I have the winning corner on dishes too. He does do them by himself sometimes, my hero. All of the boys help rinse and load their dinner plate and silverware (with a little reminder every time) does that ever stop?

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?I do. When we got married I suggested that we don’t have a ‘side’, because that’s boring and I like to switch things up a bit. Wow, aren’t I exciting.

Who pays the bills?I do. We both go over that stuff together when we need to. I really love to organize and budget and save and spend.

Who mows the lawn?Justin loves to mow the lawn. When we bought our house he discovered how much he likes to garden and see things grow and all that. I used to love mowing our Florida property with the riding mower. I tried about three years ago to get Justin to concede to me buying us one. I just couldn’t justify it for a third acre. Maybe next year when we have a full acre. Yes!yes! yes! Yes! Yes! If you haven’t ever used one, put it on your bucket list! I’m not a red neck.

Who cooks dinner?I have discovered the ease of freezer meals. I take time and make a bunch of meals in one day and freeze them. I love it. Justin cooks pancakes and hashbrowns for breakfast a lot and he likes to grill meat, pinapple, and veggies.

Who drives when you are together?Justin when we are in a hurry. He is a get there and on with your day type. I love to go on rides. I love to go a different way home from the store when I have time.

Who is more stubborn?Depends… although we are both pretty easy going, I’m not sure stubborn is a way to describe either of us. No comments from my family.

Who is the first to admit when they’re wrong?We are pretty good at communicating. I love that.

Whose parents do you see the most?Right now, we see Justin’s parents more. Justin’s parents live for vacations. So they stay at our house a lot in route to somewhere else.

Who kissed who first?Justin kissed me. Who proposed?Justin…..all three times.

Who is more sensitive?I like that Justin is sensitive.

Who has more friends?I have a lot of younger friends….Porters age and such.
He has a lot of friends, everywhere we go he knows someone.

Who has more siblings?Me. I’m first of seven. Justin is first of four.

Who wears the pants in the family?I was just telling him yesterday how cute he looks in khakis.

Swiss Days!

We are accepted into Swiss Days!
Those of you who know Justin and I well, know that Swiss Days is fun time for our family. We work together throughout the entire summer building our inventory of floral arrangements and furniture to sell at the biggest and funnest craft show I have ever seen.

The whole event is centered around a Swiss theme, the valley was originally settled by, you guessed it, the Swiss. The homes in the area have Swiss shutters and painting on them of boars, and swiss horns, and beautiful scroll work. My grandma Denning would call it "very quaint."

Anyway, Swiss Days has tons of food...(all profit from food goes to the LDS church mission fund),bratwursts and sour kraut, desserts, a big dinner on Saturday night of meat cooked all day in an underground pit. (Justin's favorite)

The kids love to go on Saturday after all the crazy women have shopped till they drop and play on the inflatable slides and jump castles. Did I mention there is over 200 booths of hand crafted items.

Our families have come up as they can, my mom has come almost every year, even with all her travels. My sisters have come several times, and one year we flew them up to help us with floral production before the show. That was fun.
My dad even came one year and helped with the boys. Remember that... Kallin chucked gum through the air and hit some guy in the shoulder while my dad was in a cotton candy line with them. I would have got after him but I think Grandpa was a true to form Grandpa. I don't remember for sure... probably told Kallin to look the other way and hope the guy who got it in the shoulder was looking for someone in the other direction.
Justins Aunt Carol came one year with Betty and helped with Porter when he was a baby. She passed away a few months later. Justin's mom has commented that she's glad she that time with her sister.

We always see people there that we enjoy a camaraderie with this one time of the year. Some are fellow vendors. It is fun to catch up and see the new items they are making.
I also love to see friends and acquaintances that come shopping. Billie Jo is my cousin Cameron's sister-in-law. She runs a dance studio here in Utah, when she comes to Swiss Days I enjoy that she stops at my booth and says hello.
My boys preschool teacher, Marlene Sheppard, also goes faithfully every year with her girls. She starts her preschool after Swiss Days every year. Even if the Elementary Schools started the week before, she waits till she gets her shopping in. We have even had Floridians come say hi.

The show signals the end of summer and beginning of the new school year. I truly love Swiss Days as the fun event that we look forward to with hopes for some extra cash we have worked for together and some good ole country fun. Hope whoever can come will, we have some extra beds!

My valentines flowers. We went to Costco so Blake could buy me flowers. He was so excited when he saw all wrapped bouquets. He wispered to me that he new the kind I liked. He loves to do things like this for me. Should it scare me that he is so in tune to what girls like and he is so young? Notice he was shy when i wanted to take a picture with him.
